Expanding Diagnostic Capacity: EQPAL Medical and REME-D Deliver Technical Lecture at National Public Health Institution
EQPAL Medical, together with our partners at REME-D, recently delivered a technical lecture and equipment demonstration at a national public health institution, presenting the PseeR molecular diagnostics platform to laboratory staff, technical leads, and institutional leadership.
A full diagnostic panel
While much of our recent work has focused on hepatitis screening, the session presented the broader PseeR quantitative PCR portfolio — a panel designed to address several of the highest-burden infectious diseases in the region:
PseeR HBV — Hepatitis B Virus (96 tests per kit)
PseeR HCV — Hepatitis C Virus (96 tests per kit)
PseeR MTB — Mycobacterium Tuberculosis (96 tests per kit)
PseeR HIV — Human Immunodeficiency Virus (96 tests per kit)
PseeR HPV — high-risk HPV 16/18 DNA (48 tests per kit)
PseeR CMV — Cytomegalovirus (96 tests per kit)
Each assay provides quantitative detection, supporting not only diagnosis but viral load monitoring and treatment response tracking.
From presentation to platform
The session was structured deliberately in two parts. The first covered the assay portfolio, detection methodology, and clinical applications. The second moved participants to the equipment itself — the automated nucleic acid extraction systems and real-time PCR platforms — for hands-on demonstration.
That second half is where the most valuable discussion took place. Laboratory teams raised the practical questions that specifications alone never answer: throughput under real caseloads, sample handling workflows, staff training requirements, consumable supply, and platform stability in local operating conditions.
Why this matters
Diagnostic capacity in East Africa is constrained less by the availability of technology than by whether that technology can be sustained. A platform that requires conditions a laboratory cannot maintain, or consumables it cannot reliably source, delivers little long-term value regardless of its technical performance.
